Sacral Chakra (Svadisthana)

Sanskrit Meaning:

Svadhishthana [Swa = one’s own, Adhisthana abode or seat | aka: one’s own base]

The Creative Chakra

Creativity, passion and emotional stability is what our Sacral Chakra governs. Often, we are made to believe that our feelings are taboo and signs of weakness (especially men). We are taught to suppress these feelings, hiding them from others, faking smiles to people we don’t like because it’s the “proper” thing to do. When did lying about how we feel become common place?

Not embracing your feelings and letting them be known causes stress and makes us more prone to outburst and strained relationships. Relationships don’t need extra unnecessary strain. Talk about your feelings. Express your feelings. Your sacral chakra strives to be exercised in creativity and acted upon by following your passions and being joyful. Suppressing it can cause all sorts of negative manifestations.

In the society we live in today, we are all expected to follow the crowd, to conform to what you are “suppose to do” instead of what you dream to do. We are brought up to believe that we should be more “practical” and “realistic” and get our “heads out of the clouds”.

By conforming to what is expected of us, we suppress who we are and what we are passionate about. We hide the creativity and uniqueness of ourselves in an effort to “fit in”. Thus, crushing our inner capabilities and genius.

Did you have a dream as a child that someone told you was unrealistic or impractical? Did you give up on said dream to instead pursue “acceptable” career paths instead? Does that dream still ache to be experienced in your whole body?
