Celestite, also known as Celestine, is a beautiful blue crystal that is often associated with divinity, higher consciousness, and mindfulness. Celestite is a high vibrational stone commonly used in practices such as reiki and meditation. Celestite is a great stone for those looking to deepen their spiritual understanding, or even just begin their spiritual journey.
History
This mineral is named after the Latin word “Caelestis”, or “Celestial”. According to Sicilian legends, Celestite crystals fell from the stars onto Earth. Ancient civilizations revered Celestite crystals as symbols of divine and heavenly truth, peace, and wisdom. In the ancient Greek and Roman civilizations, Celestite amulets were worn as spiritual protection. It wasn’t until the late 18th century that Celestite was formally named by German geologist Abraham Werner.
Composition and Formation
These sky-blue stones form in geodes, sedimentary rocks, ocean beds, as well as streams. Celestite is primarily formed in sedimentary environments through the interaction of sulfate and strontium ions in supersaturated groundwater solutions. Celestite consists of strontium sulfate, a soft mineral that is typically pale blue, white, pale yellow, or colorless. Celestite is also an ore mineral for the element strontium that is used in flares and fireworks. Celestite geodes and crystals are found in various regions but are largely mined in the Northwest regions of Madagascar and Sicily, Italy.

Cleansing and Charging
Here are some Do’s and Don’ts one can follow when learning how to cleanse and charge their Celestite crystal:
Do:
Because Celestite is a bit of a fragile crystal, smudging the crystal with smoke from sage or incense is a popular and low-risk option for cleansing the crystal.
Place a powerful cleansing stone such as Selenite next to the Celestite. This is an effective way of cleansing and charging the crystal.
Simply place the crystal in an area where it may be exposed to moonlight. The gentle light will cleanse the crystal of any discordant energies it has absorbed and charge the crystal with a positive and light energy.
Don’t:
One should avoid placing their Celestite crystal somewhere it may experience direct sunlight, as it may cause the stunning blue color to fade.
One should also avoid immersing their Celestite crystal in water. Because Celestite is a soft mineral, the water may damage the physical integrity of the stone.
